The Old Stables

Updated: Jul 16

The site for this project was a small converted stable block sandwiched between North Creake and South Creake, North Norfolk. The Stable block was previously converted in the 80's. The existing accommodation is set across 1.5 storeys with an early 21st century extension to the west. The owners wanted to open the property up on to the far reaching west facing landscape as well as providing a new modern kitchen/living room area and upstairs master bedroom.

We were able to achieve this through a combination of extruding the existing form of the early 21st century extension and sinking the building into the landscape by 600mm, a clad loft dormer was then added to marry up with the levels of the dormer windows of the existing property.

We have specified a combination of traditional and modern materials to allow a design that both respects the vernacular of the existing buildings materials and contributes to the new contemporary building forms of the lofted dormer.
